Hi,
With the economy the way it is, this will be a big year for people flocking to the web to find specials in order to save money. We are in unprecedented territory but we will make it through. It’s taking longer than what we would hope for but we will get there.
So what do we do in the meantime? Actually you are ahead of the curve because you have taken the opportunity to sell your products and services online. Some of you have been doing it as long as or maybe even longer than me when I started in 1997.
People are not going to stop shopping altogether but they are going to look for the best deal possible more often than what they have done in the past. And that is the good news. Where do you go when you want to comparison shop? You go to either your favorite comparison shopping website or search engine. The amount of comparison shopping looks to have decreased in the past years with the improving economy but if you notice there is a large spike in searches starting in November. You have to also remember though that the internet is being used for more things than just comparison shopping. So while the numbers may look like they are decreasing, in reality they are not. It is because there are more things being searched for than just comparison shopping sites.
There are also special shopping deals people are looking for. For example two of the biggest searches in the past have been Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals/specials/sales.
If you compare the most popular holiday shopping keywords you will see that Black Friday trumps them all. If you take Black Friday out of the mix you will still get some really encouraging stats on the online holiday shopping season.
Attached is some research you should find interesting. It is titled Holiday Shopping Intentions and it was conducted on behalf of Google.
Now with that being said we are going to go ahead and create some campaign templates that we can quickly deploy for any of our clients that want to take advantage of this trend before it is too late.
We will have the following campaign ad groups ready to be implemented in your account beginning next week. This type of campaign is going to work best with retail type products. If you are selling a service or directly marketing to other businesses then this campaign is not going to help you that much. But for those of you targeting the holiday shopping consumer you will want to consider using this campaign.
We are not charging extra for this service as this is part of your service with us and we are happy to be able to offer it to you. The campaign will consist of the following ad groups.
Black Friday
Cyber Monday
General Holiday Shopping
Each ad group will contain specific shopping related keywords for that event, i.e.
Black Friday sales
Black Friday specials
Black Friday deals
etc. etc.
We suggest a three way approach that includes search, content only and placements if you have the available budget. We can do one or another if you prefer to focus on only one area.
Since these will be template based they will not be difficult to implement but we will place them on a first come first serve basis so please let me know as soon as you have decided that you would like to have them implemented in your account.
